The Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office is hosting a free to attend CLE on The Intersection of Civil Rights and Criminal Defense. This CLE is approved for 1 general hour and you must sign in when you arrive.

Who: Darlene Harris is a former criminal defense attorney and now a civil rights lawyer and trademark attorney, where she has dedicated over a decade to advocating for justice.
With a background in criminal defense and a strong passion for civil rights advocacy, particularly fighting against police brutality, Darlene is committed to defending individuals mistreated by law enforcement. Her experience representing the NAACP against Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department for their unconstitutional behavior during the protests in 2020 further fueled her drive to protect the underrepresented.
Recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers and named among the Top 10 Best Attorneys in North Carolina, she is dedicated to delivering expert legal services. Darlene also proudly serves on the Advisory Board of Gardner Webb University and was formerly President of the Charlotte Women’s Bar.
With a law degree from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Darlene combines legal expertise with her passion for community empowerment. Outside of law, she enjoy exploring new foods, music, and travel.
