Monthly Attorney Orientation
For Lawyers who are New to Indigent Defense
Beginning August 1, IDS staff will provide orientation for new attorneys on the first Friday of each month from 1-2 p.m.
Topics will include a guided tour of the IDS website, information on training and CLE opportunities, access to wellness resources and more. You will also be able to connect with other defense attorneys for future collaboration!

Perinatal Mental Health

Description: This 1-hour training introduces participants to perinatal mental health and its importance in legal matters. The spectrum, etiology, and incidence of perinatal mental health conditions will be discussed. The intersections of perinatal mental health and the legal system will be explored along with case examples related to criminal and family matters. Resources, like Postpartum Support International’s legal toolkit, will be provided for attorneys and case workers to help them identify, represent, and refer clients with perinatal mental health conditions.

Participants: This webinar is open to public defenders, private attorneys who do indigent criminal defense work, and staff.
Presenter: Roxanne Rosenberg, LCMHC, QS, PMH-C is a licensed clinical mental health counselor certified in perinatal mental health and is the co-owner and clinical director of Anchor Perinatal Wellness. Educated at Yale and Duke, Roxanne has over 15 years of experience supporting and advocating for pregnant and postpartum individuals. Roxanne owns and runs Anchor Perinatal Wellness, an outpatient facility for acute perinatal psychiatric illness, in Raleigh, NC. She is a member of the federal Maternal Mental Health Task Force, and she chaired Postpartum Support International’s NC chapter for several years. Roxanne provides training on perinatal mental health across the country. A proud Miami native, Roxanne is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
