2024 Child Support Enforcement: Representing Respondents Conference

Registration for the 2024 Child Support Enforcement: Representing Respondents conference, co-sponsored by the UNC School of Government and the Office of Indigent Defense Services, is now available at https://www.sog.unc.edu/courses/child-support-enforcement.

PROGRAM: This program provides training for attorneys who represent alleged contemnors in child support enforcement proceedings. Sessions will focus on civil contempt, advocacy in-and-out of the courtroom, evidence, and other issues relevant to respondent representation. We will announce the agenda at a later date, closer to the program.

PARTICIPANTS: This training is open to public defenders, private attorneys who do appointed work, and attorneys who represent respondents in child support enforcement proceedings.

LOCATION & DATE: The training will be held at the UNC School of Government on Friday, January 19, 2024.

REGISTRATION: To register online and find other program information, including our cancellation and refund policy, visit https://www.sog.unc.edu/courses/child-support-enforcement. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

The registration deadline is 5:00 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024.

FEE: The registration fee for private assigned counsel and contract attorneys is $160, which includes all materials, parking, break, and lunch. There is no fee for IDS state employees.

A limited number of scholarships are available for private assigned counsel and contract attorneys. If you are interested in applying, click here to complete the scholarship application. You must apply and receive approval for a scholarship before registering. Please apply as soon as possible. Scholarships are awarded no later than two weeks after application submission.

The scholarship application deadline is Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

CREDIT: The program will offer 6 hours of continuing legal education (CLE) credit, including one hour of ethics, pending State Bar approval.

Hotel Information: A block of rooms is available at the Hampton Inn & Suites Chapel Hill/Durham hotel at 6121 Farrington Rd. Chapel Hill, NC, at the rate of $109 a night plus tax.
