Join us in welcoming Sharif Deveaux as the newest IDS Regional Defender. His official start date was January 6, 2025.
Sharif graduated Magna Cum Laude from the North Carolina Central University School of Law, and he has spent the last 14 years as an assistant public defender for District 10 (Wake County).
To date, Sharif is the only assistant public defender out of Wake County to have practiced every area of law that the PD office there represents. Those areas include District Court, Juvenile Court, Superior Court, Felony Probation Violations, Recovery Court and First Appearances.
Most of his work has been in district court and juvenile defense.
In his first few days on the new job, Sharif will focus on hearing from appointed counsel about how IDS can better help them represent clients.
He is looking forward to learning how different districts operate and exploring the working relationships between Private Assigned Counsel (PAC) who contract with IDS and the public defender offices they assist (in the districts that have PD offices).
