The Office of Indigent Defense Services is pleased to announce Joseph B. Oder has joined the IDS team as Senior Research Associate. His first day was March 2, 2024.
Joseph will assist IDS Research Director Christopher Sadler with research and development, research design and data analysis for a wide variety of internal and external projects.
Joseph earned a master’s degree in “Specializations in Advanced Econometrics and Developmental Policy” from the University of Illinois Urbana Champagne in December 2023. Before attending graduate school, he majored in economics and minored in marine science, environmental science and biology at North Carolina State University.
His recent studies—which essentially focused on advanced statistics and research design for various micro- and macro- issues—coupled with some experience as a syndicated loans analyst for Wells Fargo, made him a good fit for the IDS Research Department.
Joseph is originally from Charlotte. He returned to Raleigh because the years spent at NCSU pulled him to return to the area. He said he is excited to have an opportunity to apply analytical skills “while working for an agency where he appreciates the work being done, and where the people are accountable, and everyone is working for the same purpose—and also with a passion for the same cause, toward a common goal.”
A proclaimed National Park enthusiast, Joseph likes to hike and travel when he can. In his free time, he also enjoys music and woodworking.
