Max Silva joins IDS to serve as Legal Assistant

April 27, 2023Filed Under: Announcements

The Office of Indigent Defense Services is pleased to announce Max Silva recently joined the IDS team to serve as Legal Assistant. He comes to IDS from the Office of the State Capital Defender, where his work focused on digital archiving and processing fee applications. Max started working for IDS on March 29, 2023.

Max executes a variety of administrative work and provides litigation support for the Assistant Director and General Counsel for IDS, daily. He is currently developing a records retention policy and its plan for implementation.

Max is a native of southeastern Massachusetts. He moved to North Carolina from Chicago, where he had been working to earn a doctorate degree in music theory. In 2020, with dissertation progress halted by the pandemic, he took inspiration from ongoing social justice movements and left academia to pursue public interest legal aid.

Max holds a bachelor’s degree in music and philosophy from Yale. He earned a master’s degree in music theory from the University of Chicago and completed a certificate in paralegal studies from Loyola University of Chicago.

Max is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help populations who are historically underserved and underrepresented. He brings efficiency and organization to administrative tasks and provides support for substantive legal tasks for the general counsel.

To reach Max, send an email to [email protected].
